Text Message Scam

Austin Telco has been notified of a text message scam affecting people in the Austin area. The text messages featured a message with a deactivation notice with a phone number to call for reactivation.  While the phone number is no longer in service, previously it was answered by an automated system that asked for the card number and expiration date.

Austin Telco will never ask for personal account information via text message. Do not respond to any suspicious text message. An example of the text in question can be seen below.

FROM: 1234 Message: Credit Union Alert Your card has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 512-697-9837 to REACTIVATE your card.
